Most of Orbit now works without an account — only the live integrations need a key
We narrowed what the Activation Key gates. Orbit's calculators, validators, email and template builders, diagram rendering, copy tools, and the full skill library now run without an account. A key is only needed when Orbit connects out to Braze, Stripo, Figma, or AI image generation. Plus a fix for keys that wouldn't take after pasting: fully quit Claude Desktop and relaunch so the change is picked up.
What shipped
•Less is locked — when 0.24.0 added the account step, it gated every tool. That was heavier than it needed to be. From 0.24.1, everything that runs on your own machine works without a key: the sample-size, LTV, RFM and retention calculators, the email and MJML builders, template and component work, lifecycle diagrams, subject-line and preheader scoring, deliverability and accessibility checks, and all 62 skills. Open Orbit and use them straight away.
•A key is only for going out to a service — the Activation Key is now asked for at the moment Orbit actually connects to an external account: reading or writing in Braze, pushing or pulling a Stripo email, importing a Figma design, or generating a brand image with AI. If you don't reach for one of those, you'll never see the prompt. And tools that do both — like composing an email locally before pushing it to Stripo — let you do the local part without a key and only ask when you push.
•Fixed: a key that wouldn't take after pasting — some people pasted a valid key and still saw Orbit report it as not activated. Orbit reads the key when its background server starts, and opening a new chat reuses the same one, so the key never got picked up. The fix: fully quit Claude Desktop (Cmd+Q, not just closing the window) and reopen it. The activation message now says this plainly.
•The setup check now shows your key — run a setup check and you'll see your Activation Key listed alongside your other connections, so you can confirm in one place whether it reached Orbit and whether it's been validated.
